As nowadays quality assurance has become a global practice in academia at the tertiary level, in our country it is an immense need for our graduates to attain the competence of global standard. As a part of the initiative, the universities— irrespective of public and private— have formed the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the guidelines of the Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance Unit of the UGC.

In the context of BAIUST, it is a matter of great joy that in 2016 the IQAC was formed and started working in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor and as per the IQAC Manual and the instructions of the UGC and of the BAC.

As a matter of fact, the IQAC, BAIUST, is a consultative body established duly to oversee not only the quality assurance in the areas of teaching, learning, and assessment, but it also effectively helps the broader areas of the university for its smooth functioning, conforming to global standard which is obviously required for achieving accreditation from the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) formed under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017. The IQAC helps the university in the larger scopes including its governance, employees’ professional development, physical facilities, curriculum review and development, students’ support services, research and development, and continuous quality improvement. Very considerably, it is committed to helping the different Departments of this university to undertake the self-assessment survey for identifying their strength, opportunities, weakness, threats, the graduates’ employability and reviewing the curricula as per the needs of industry. After the survey, the Departments will certainly take further improvement plans and ultimately gain the desired standard in these areas for accreditation.

The IQAC, BAIUST, therefore, includes its two functional aspects: to work for assuring quality (QA) and to achieve excellence in teaching learning (ETL) or pedagogical excellence. QA functions with an aim to promote a continuous process of evaluation through self-assessment and monitor to improve the quality of education, research, and governance for developing a required quality culture in the university. ETL, conversely, is committed to the professional development of the faculty members by orienting them to or training them on effective teaching and assessment strategies and different dimensions of pedagogy. To do so, need-based training workshops are regularly arranged in which in-house trainers and guest resource persons are invited, and these are also organized for the development of administrative staff and students. The objective is to enhance individual and institutional capacities of the teachers, staff, and students, and the outcomes are intended that learners can demonstrate their attained capacities as a part of quality assurance, thus representing BAIUST locally and globally.

We seek concerted co-operation from all the concerned stakeholders for proper plans and initiatives to be taken by the IQAC, BAIUST and for their implementations for the sake of the university’s continual improvement aiming at producing globally competent graduates and achieving accreditation from the statuary body, BAC.
