The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), BAIUST

In the 21st century, quality assurance has become a global phenomenon in terms of higher education at the tertiary level. Keeping this in view, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) are guiding as well as mentoring the universities of Bangladesh —public and private. We also need to maintain the criteria and their sub-areas as set by the Bangladesh National Qualifications Framework (BNQF) for attaining global standards in our universities. Consequently, all the universities have established their Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to establish a culture of quality in both academic and administrative affairs. With a view to meeting such a need along with our graduates’ academic and professional requirements in Bangladeshi and global contexts, BAIUST established its IQAC on 01 November 2016. Here, the IQAC plays its role very significantly to facilitate the university for achieving its cherished vision through its pragmatic mission. Needless to say that the BAIUST authorities are truly committed to strengthening it as an excellent centre of resources and information related to the quality culture.

IQAC at BAIUST

Quality assurance in higher education, which is a global practice, has always been BAIUST’s priority since its inception. We acknowledge that rapid changes in the global scenario in the 21st century have made it inevitable to redeem the education systems in every country with a view to reaching the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Now it has become vital for higher educational institutions to be closely aligned with the needs of the community and needs of the graduates to explore their potentials in terms of employability, creativity and life-long training.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was established at Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST) under an administrative order of the University authority in line with Private University Act 2010, Section 36. It has been organized in such a way as befits the size, existing structure as pointed out in the Act. For the purpose of a dynamic and effective IQAC, the university has taken initiatives to increase the availability of experienced and competent academics. With the primary objective to ensure quality in all criteria of 21st century higher education, the IQAC, BAIUST, seeks to support the University in achieving its Vision and materializing its Mission. Hence, it undertakes

  1. the assurance of quality education, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) through the involvement of all the stakeholders in the process;
  2. the review of existing standards and procedures in order to find out shortcoming of any sort;
  3. the provision of critical development experiences through training, workshops, and study visits;
  4. the regular and systematic monitoring and evaluation of BAIUST’s practices and processes through audit, survey and other instruments as deemed fit to ensure generally acceptable standards of quality;
  5. the development of new standards, policies, systems, processes, and procedures by adapting and incorporating best practices in higher educational institutions;
  6. the adoption of outcome-based education in all the programs of the University;
  7. the underscoring of the expectation that graduates should come out of the University equipped with requisite qualifications and skills that the society and the country need for achieving higher economic growth and prosperity’ and
  8. the nourishment of talents for highly potential QA leaders and the smooth functioning of the IQAC aligned with the development of a QA culture in the University;
